This is a beautiful antique brass spirit kettle from the early 20th century, made by William Soutter & Sons of Birmingham. The maker’s stamp is clearly visible on the base, confirming it as genuine Soutterware. William Soutter & Sons were active from the late 19th century and became well known for producing high-quality brass and copper hollowware, including kettles, jugs and decorative hearth pieces. Their work is now collected for its craftsmanship and classic Birmingham metalworking style.
The kettle is crafted from solid brass with a shaped gooseneck spout, a turned wooden handle and its original brass stand. This type of stand was designed to raise the kettle above a small spirit burner, keeping water or mulled drinks warm by the fireside. The style and construction sit perfectly within Soutter’s early 20th-century production, with the distinctive monogram and number used for model identification.
The piece is in very good antique condition with gentle age-related surface wear and patina, adding character and authenticity. The kettle opens smoothly and sits securely on the stand, making it ideal for display.
A lovely fireside piece and a charming example of traditional Birmingham brass craftsmanship.
