A lovely mid-century studio pottery lidded jar with a deep gloss glaze in rich brown tones and a striking drip effect around the rim. The glaze runs from earthy ochres to almost black, giving it a molten, organic feel. Hand-thrown with a nicely turned foot and no maker’s mark, it’s likely from a small pottery studio active around the 1960s–70s.
The shape is slightly elevated on a pedestal base with a snug-fitting lid and a rounded pull handle. Could have originally been a sugar pot or preserve jar, but it would also make a sweet trinket pot, tea caddy, or even a bud vase if you use it without the lid.
