A late 19th century Art Nouveau sugar scuttle, silver plated and raised on a pedestal foot.
Flowing engraved decoration and beaded edging catch the light beautifully. Modelled on the traditional coal hod form, these were designed for the dining table and used for serving sugar cubes or sweets, making a striking accent for a sideboard or cabinet display.
The side fittings remain where a swing spoon would originally have been attached. It is very common for the spoon to be missing and this does not detract from the overall presentation.
The silver plate has naturally worn and mellowed over time, now showing tarnish and variation in tone across the surface. This age-related wear is typical and adds to the antique character.
A genuine period piece, very pretty and reflective of the fashion of the time. It will bring a bit of history into your home.
