This fine bone china jug is an exact replica of the 18th-century "Salopian" pottery jugs first produced at the Caughley works around 1770. It features the traditional "mask-head" spout, depicting the molded face of a man, and a body embossed with a cabbage-leaf texture.
The piece is decorated with hand-painted floral sprays including pink roses and purple violets. The rim is finished with a deep cobalt blue border and intricate gold geometric detailing, matched by gilt accents on the scrolled handle. This specific edition was produced by Coalport to commemorate the discovery of an original, undamaged Caughley jug at the factory site. The base includes a detailed historical backstamp tracing the factory's heritage from its 1750 origins through the 1799 Coalport takeover.
