Vintage wooden bottle stopper carved in the form of a stylised elephant. The design is hand-turned with a smooth natural wood finish and simple modernist features including a long trunk and rounded ears. The base has a metal collar and original cork fitting.
Although it has a central metal insert, there doesn’t appear to be a clear opening for use as a pourer, so it functions best as a decorative stopper. There is a fine join visible around the neck which may indicate an old repair, though it is not very noticeable and does not detract from the overall appearance.
Light surface wear and natural ageing to the wood and cork, consistent with age and use. The piece remains solid and well-made.
