An old and rare book publication titled In and About Drury Lane by John Doran, LL.D.
This is the Edition De Luxe, limited to one thousand copies, and this example is numbered 283. Published by Francis A. Nicolls & Co., Boston, in two volumes – this listing is for Volume I.
A beautifully produced theatre history exploring Drury Lane and the English stage, filled with anecdotes, literary commentary and insight into 18th and 19th century London theatre culture. A wonderful piece for collectors of theatre history, London interest books or Victorian literary works.
Bound in original cloth with top edge gilt. The gilt remains bright and clean. The fore and lower edges are deckled (rough cut), which is intentional and typical of higher quality limited editions of the period.
Late 19th to early 20th century.
Condition: The binding is structurally sound but the front hinge is starting to loosen slightly at the inner joint. The text block remains attached. Pages are clean with light age toning. The gilt top edge is bright. Deckled edges show the usual uneven finish. A solid and honest example with age-related wear consistent with its years.
A genuine period piece that reflects the publishing style and literary interest of its time.
With beautiful covers, aged pages and timeless stories, vintage books make for beautiful gifts. Holding a small bit of history in your hands, they offer a glimpse into the past and gives the opportunity to read the literature in their original form.
Ideal for collectors of theatre history, London interest books, Victorian literature enthusiasts or as a decorative statement in a study or reading room.
