Japanese Satsuma Style Jars Trio Hand Painted Crackle Glaze Mid Century
Description:
A decorative set of three mid-century Japanese Satsuma-style jars, each with unique hand painted designs and a traditional crackle glaze finish. These were made in Japan for export during the Showa period (c.1950s–1970s).
Largest jar: Height 14cm, Diameter 12cm
Two smaller jars: Height 11cm, Diameter 11cm
Each jar carries a hand-painted Japanese mark 「日本製」 (Made in Japan), applied with a brush rather than stamped, giving them a more individual finish.
Decoration background:
One jar shows warrior figures, representing scenes from Japanese folklore or samurai traditions, often symbolising bravery and protection.
Another features phoenix birds (Hō-ō) amongst flowers — the phoenix is a symbol of renewal, peace, and prosperity in Japanese art.
The third is decorated with floral and bird motifs, where peonies traditionally symbolise wealth and honour.
Condition: Good overall, with no chips or cracks. Some light cosmetic wear is present, as expected with age.
A charming trio of hand-painted Japanese ceramics, ideal for collectors of Asian pottery or as characterful accents in an eclectic home interior.
