An antique Rowntree & Co Ltd York book-shaped cocoa and chocolate tin, dating to around c1910–1930. The underside carries the wording “By Appointment Cocoa & Chocolate Makers to H.M. The King”, placing it in the reign of King George V.
The tin is beautifully designed in the form of a book, decorated with an embossed medieval scene to the lid and heraldic details to the sides, including a lion and unicorn with coat of arms. These tins were originally sold containing Rowntree’s luxury chocolates and cocoa, and were often kept as keepsakes.
Dimensions:
4 x 17 x 11cm
Condition:
The tin is in good antique condition with light surface wear, age-related patina and some areas of oxidation as expected of a piece of this age. The decoration remains visible and displays well.
A lovely piece of Rowntree history, perfect for collectors of antique advertising tins, Rowntree memorabilia, or early 20th-century confectionery packaging.
