An early Royal Doulton story plate from the Willow Pattern narrative series, produced around the 1920s. This scene shows Chang returning to his literary work after gaining success through his cultivation of the land, and the plate is titled with the full printed caption to the reverse.
Part of the scarcer coloured and turquoise-border series, the design features raised detailing and finely enamelled figures with strong colour retention. The Royal Doulton backstamp and impressed marks are correct for early 20th-century production.
Condition is good for age. There are no chips or cracks, only typical age-related crazing. One small kiln flaw is present on the rim where the glaze did not fully take during firing. This is a manufacturing imperfection rather than later damage and does not affect the stability or overall display.
Diameter: 27 cm
A collectable Royal Doulton plate from the Willow Story series and a desirable colourway for display or for completing a set.
