A beautifully aged vintage brass and copper hearth match holder, dating to the early to mid 20th century, approximately 1920–1940.
This cylindrical fireside piece was designed to hold wooden matches upright beside the fireplace or range. To the side is the original framed striker panel, now worn with age but still clearly visible. The oval centre shows natural deterioration consistent with use and heat exposure over many decades.
Constructed from sheet brass with copper bands to the top and base, the piece features riveted detailing and visible folded seams, typical of honest early 20th century manufacture. The arched carry handle and angled front lip make it both practical and decorative.
The surface carries a rich, time-earned patina. There are areas of verdigris, age-related oxidation, surface scratches and darkening, all consistent with its age and original purpose. This has not been over-polished, allowing the character and warmth of the metal to remain intact.
A genuine period hearth accessory that reflects traditional British fireside design.
