A charming vintage marionette puppet, handmade in the circa 1950s era and full of rustic character. She’s crafted from simple wooden blocks and dowels, with hand-drawn features, a painted bodice and a sweet little fabric skirt that gives her so much personality. The strings, joints and clothing all show signs of her long life, and she has clearly had several repairs over the years – but for me that just adds to her story and makes her wonderfully quirky.
Her construction is very typical of mid-century handmade toys, with a single wooden control bar and freely moving limbs. She has the imperfect, folk-art style that collectors love, and would make a lovely display piece for anyone drawn to unusual, rustic and well-loved vintage items.
