This is a lovely early Canadian sweetheart brooch, most likely from the First World War period. It’s designed in the classic maple leaf shape with a gilt finish and coloured enamel detailing, echoing the style of the Canadian Expeditionary Force badges worn by soldiers overseas. These brooches were privately purchased gifts, usually given to wives, mothers or girlfriends as a symbol of connection during military service.

The front shows an enamel “CANADA” banner beneath the imperial crown, and the colours are still well preserved for the age. The back has an old tube hinge and simple catch, which is consistent with WWI-era manufacture. It measures approximately 2.5 x 2.5cm.
